I don't know. I love the idea. Most people turn their noses at it, though.

Haven't you heard of NAFTA ?
If you will take the time to observe things OBJECTIVELY, you will notice that the OPERATIVE language of Canada and the U.S. is ENGLISH !!!
French and English are both the "official" languages of Canada, but most Canadians speak English primarily and know how to speak English when needed.
The United States and Canada have a very equivalent standard of living and have equivalent levels of education.
As a result of this, Canada and the U.S. have an equivalent level of infrastructure. Going from Canada to the U.S. is done so quite smoothly.
There is almost a seamless transition.
Not so with Mexico!
Mexico is very much out of step with Canada and the U.S. because the citizens of Mexico: 1) Don't speak English, 2) Don't have anywhere near the same level of education. 3) Don't have anywhere near the same standard of living, and 4) Don't have the same constitutionally based culture.
Mexico does not currently have enough to offer.
When you travel from the U.S. to Mexico, you do not experience the same seamless transition you experience when you travel from the U.S. to Canada.
There is a very serious DIFFERENTIAL.
Mexico needs to get its act together!
It currently does not have enough to offer.
In its current state of development, Mexico would drag the U.S. and Canada down!
In its current state of development, Mexico is far more of a liability to Canada and the U.S. than it could ever be an asset.
I'm sorry, but that is the way it is.
The Mexican people have accepted their plight with silent dignity, but if Mexico wants to be a bride or EQUAL partner to any country, they need to get real, real busy and do a whole lotta catching up in order to have enough to offer.
If the United States is falling away from being a super power, merging with Mexico would only accelerate that process !!!!
The last time I looked, people from all over the world INCLUDING Mexico are desperately trying to come to the United States.
The middle-class in the U.S. is what sustains this country. As long as we continue to get SKILLED immigrants, the middle-class will continue to be a large and productive segment of our economy.
The United States and Canada have no problem floating above the water!
It is Mexico that is having the problem swimming!
There are plenty of Mexicans who can just taste those Social Security checks even though they haven't been paying into Social Security for as many years as most American workers have.
If people come here only to take instead of to give, how will that help the U.S. remain a SUPERPOWER?

No, we are a United States already.
Did you think they gave us oil because they liked us. They need the money from America & will not stop seling to us.
What does Mexico bring to the table? We already loan them money every year, they dump their uneducated & unemloyed citizens on us while allowing almost no immigration themself.
They have no army to help defend anyone & no money.
Canada has money & a small army but a large netional health program to fund.
You assumption is huge that the USA will not be a super power as right now we are the only super power according to the UN. I am grateful to our allies - Mexico & esp. Canada, but I see no need to give up our individual countries. We all have great pride in our country & do not want to morph into a "group country". Working as allies has worked for over 200 years & I see no justified reason to change it.
What has the United States done to you to make you hate her so? Have a happy 4th of July anyway! I will be celebrating my freedom & love for my great country.

Buddy, Canada has all the oil America will EVER need. Trust me on that.
AS for a Union.. i don't think we'll ever join eachother, but I think trade will just grow and grow. We'll be more integrated for sure. But all the countries (I can only speak for Canada and the States) have way too much isolationists and nationalists to allow such a political union.

We've already formed an economic union with them - NAFTA. Thank you Clinton - We miss you. We'll see you again in '08.
India and China rising as superpowers means that we will have more honest input about the flaws of our nation, as well as trading partners for our goods. Your comments seem to be based out of fear and a desire to control others

no, it's just a form of wealth distribution. the US would not benefit. Mexico is a corrupt state trying to get rid of it's people and Canada is a socialist state trying to get more money for it's people! where or how could the US benefit?

I'm not against it IF each separate state or province has nearly the same independence as a separate country and they are all help together in treaty and law to protect each other...If you want a more powerful central government that will lessen each individual's worth...NO WAY
