This question does not pertain to Psychology... but religion & spirituality...

We have to go deep into the reason of fear.. which is actually fear of losing something we have... be it our life, our possessions or our near and dear ones.

When we advance in spirituality...and become nearer to the ultimate truth... we know the futility of our possessions.. We know we never took birth, nor would we die.

We know that our possessions and near and dears are transitory in the bigger game plane.

Knowing the truth of fear... removes fear

God is power and strength. We r brought up in such a way that everything is possible with God. A human mind is frail and slight jolt destabilizes him/her and for this purpose the weak looks to the strong for support which he /she may or may not get. But when we advance in spirituality then our mind becomes strong by chanting of Mantra or vipashana. We credit this strength to God and yes help also comes to us when we pray and ask for it. When a problem is solved thru divine grace we feel that some power is with us. This feeling decreases and gradually eliminates fear to a great extent. But total fearlessness is not possible for human beings. Nature is supreme power and I have not seen a single person passing its test. Everyone collapses at some point or the other. Even the enlightened souls get shaken by the enormity of attack on them.

There is a saying " You become what company you keep" God hath no fear. His followers also lose all fear. The more closer to God you are the more fearless you are. He knows that he has nothing to lose. Loss of body doesnt mean much Its going to be lost any way, some day. He knows death is not the end. He knows no one can harm him unless God so wills. And he is eager to submit to God's wills. So the element of uncertainty and darkness vanishes from his eyes.

You have faith in God, and, so you are not burdened by an overwhelming sense of responsibility: your "risk taking ability" is so much more, when you strongly believe that God is your partner! With such strength and power to support you, you get to be brave, not afraid anymore of failure or bad results! Yes, everyone will feel that strength, in due course, as you have indicated, at some point of time in life!

Loving God is what can increase a person's courage; the belief that he/she is living for a certain purpose, the need to please God when fulfilling this purpose, the belief in an eternal life where a person shouldn't care of what other people think of him/her but of what God thinks of him/her, and believing that even when he/she dies or gets harmed in any way, he/she will have died in honor while believing in God and fulfilling his/her purpose.

So I think that it is the love of God that can increase our courage--which is NOT the absence of fear, but the mastery of fear when every part of our being is trying to pull us back to our comfort zone.
