Well let's see.
Chemicals can get very expensive.
$100 for a tub of chlorine.
$20-$30 for stabilizer.
Shock treatments ($20 a box), algaecide preventive.
PH, Alkaline chemicals to keep it balanced, chemical test kit, running of filter for a minimum of 6 hours per day.
Closing chemicals for the winter, winter cover, solar cover.
Um, it gets real expensive!
And remember the bigger the pool, the more expensive it gets.
But! We love ours!!!
Oh yes, water costs too. Our electric and water bill has doubled since we opened ours.

depends on the size. we have a 30ft circle above ground with 52" high walls... its a 20,000 gallon pool. I spend:
150 summer for shock 100 summer for algeacide 70 summer for chlorine tabs. Therres always a need for clarifier, flocculant, misc things that come up, not too expensive. The initial cost to get the pool , have it installed, and fill it is the most. Once it is up and running, being on chlorine costs about $400 a summer just for products.. I keep my pump on 10 hrs a day, off at night, my electric bill is really no different than usual. we don't have a heater for it.. This is for a GREAT BIG POOL... Id recommend a smaller one, then the figures I gave you will certainly be less.

How small is small? I have a 2 1/2" deep by 8' blow up pool for the kids but it still suits the Wife and I for an afternoon kickback cool off. It was $30.00 at K-Mart. We have to drain it everynight because we are in Military Housing, but it will work if you don't need too much.

Are you talking "chemicals" which you have to add? Initially more until you get the right balance. $20 Are you talking utilities? Not more than $20 extra/month unless your heated.

Oh, Lord. Too much, buddy. If you have the time to use it and you're willing to keep it clean, go for it. Otherwise, it's just an expensive pond.
