I am just curious if anyone has had a planned primary c-section or is planning one for "non medical reasons". I would like to hear why you wanted to do this? this is for a research thing I am doing. I don't want to hear why or why not a person should or should not do this. I just want to hear from those who have and why they chose it.

I had a c-section but for medical reason but if i have another child(heavenforbidd) I would have another c-section this time it would not be medical.
My girl friend ask her doctor if she could because she could not handle pain of any kind. The doctor keep tell her that she does not have a medical condition. But his partner agree to do it. She is to do it next week which is one week before her due date. She said she likes the ideal of going to sleep and waking up to a new baby.

It depends upon whether you count having your second birth scheduled as a c-section b/c you ended up having a c-section the first time as "medical" or "non medical."

This is what happened to me - you can decide whether it fits your criteria or not. My first child was born via c-section for medical reasons.

When we found out that I was pregnant with my second child, my doctor and I discussed options. I decided that I was most comfortable going with a c-section the second time around vs. VBAC, because I had such a positive experience the first time. I didn't feel comfortable trading the "known" for the "unknown."

(It worked out well for me - the second one was a piece of cake, and the recovery was great also. Though I understand, of course, why some women make a different choice than I did. We all do what we think is best and hope it works out in the end.) :)

Though I have not had a c-section for a non medical reason. If I were given the choice I would want to have a natural birth. C-sections are great for people who really need them, like mothers whose baby is in the breech position. I would not want to subject my self to that if I didn't have to. It's major surgery and can have many complications afterwards. Not saying that vaginal birth doesn't have its and con's, but with a vaginal birth there would be no permanent scar and you would have an easier healing than with an elective c-section. If a woman wants to have an elective c-section, then more power to her. But I wouldn't want a longer recovery time, if I didn't have to.

Yup. Many medical professionals will do scheduled C-Sections for no better motive than the lady wishes to be ready to grasp precisely whilst the youngster is coming. Make definite you throughly speak about your choices with you surgeon despite the fact that, as C-Sections will have for much longer healing durations and will create extra headaches than vaginal births. Remember, a C-Section is a principal surgical procedure.

I had one , but for medical reasons. I don't think a doctor is allowed to perform a c- section unless its for a very good reason.

Help me understand why someone would do a c section for "non medical reasons"?

Just a whim?

Pffft.
