The top 10 are dominated by oil companies and vehicle manufacturers. These industries are 9 out of the top 10 on more current lists. I didn't see the 2002 list. The US was a significant force in the start of these 2 industries, and has stayed ahead of many. It is actually surprising they have managed to stay on top, and have been sliding in both industries. Just sliding slower than expected. It doesn't hurt that the US has an army to back up its international oil interests, and is a significant world market for vehicles. You see a lot of other Nation's Vehicle manufacturers and oil companies close behind on the list.

In the United States it is extremely easy to open a business, a business can be started realistically in two to three weeks. In many other countries to cut through the paperwork and red tape takes years.
