John Carpenter's The Thing was better than the original because it was perfect for the way Carpenter tells his stories. There didn't have to be a lot of dialogue and the special effects techniques used were invented on-the-spot as to create gore without blood. Carpenter knew if there was a lot of blood, the female audience member would 'turn away and not look' and he didn't want them to take their eyes off the screen! Plus it's just one of the coolest frickin' movies ever! :-)

No. I don't think so.
I hate the fact that there are so many remakes lately. Especially horror movies. I don't think that special effects can make a cult classic movie any better. They just get popular actors and make terrible animated movies. I just love the old horror the way it was.
The closest call was Night Of THe Living Dead, the girl was less annoying, and all, it wasn't BAD, I just preferr the original, but that may be the only that I hate.
I just saw 1408 last night, and I saw a prievew for the second, YES, second remake of "Invasion of the body snatchers.", but it's simply called Invasion. It's the same story, just with a popular actress and some animation. I even knew the damn line when they said you don't use emotion when it was played on the theater, and the person next to me asked if I had a sneak peak at it or something because I knew the line. It'll be the third f ucking movie, I've seen two versions of it before!! Of course I knew the damn line!
These remakes, there are some piling up, and it pisses me off. People don't even KNOW about the originals(which is terribly sad) and they are entertained by this computer animated trash...
Some like...The Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies, Amnityville horror, the Omen- no pretty person recplaces a classic, and you can't beat Gregory Peck, Dawn of the Dead, House On Hainted Hill, House of wax-who tries to replace Vincent Price?!, the Hills Have Eyes, the Watcher, and they're even remaking Halloween! It's dispicable.
The old movies were much better, and their special effects and props make them dated, but they're much better that way. They were scary then, and I've grown up watching these movies, and I'll be damned if I'll stomach seeing this crap when I can just watch the better one and not feel ripped off for buying it.
Thats just horror... That's the worst in the 'remake' category..

john carpenter's "the thing" is well known for being one of the best movie remakes ever. i also like the remakes of "dawn of the dead", and "tx chainsaw massacre". i just didn't like any of the three original movies as well. but it could have been because i saw the remakes first.

Night of the Living Dead
the first one's camera shots were a little poor sometimes. Also the special effects were a little corny looking in the first one.
Both of these problems were fixed in the remake 20 years later.

The Producers
As much as I loved the original, I loved the remake of the broadway show even more... I think it was the increase in musical numbers & the presence of Will Farrell that did it for me.

The omen was brilliantly remade. The remake took any older stars and replaced them with young pretty ones like Liev Schreiber who was an excellent substitute for Gregory Peck.Just take a look at Lievs acting in Scream 2.

I just thought Harrison Ford was better as Linus Larrabee than Bogart.

The Departed.
I LOVE the Infernal Affairs trilogy, but Departed was better.
It just seemed to have more action and move faster than the original. Better acting as well.
