Most anime when translated into english with the exeption of Full Metal Panic in my opinion does'nt sound as good as japanese is it just personal preference. For example i cannot watch One Piece in english and a lot of people who haven't seen the japanese versions think its stupid but in japanese its pretty good. Im suprised this doesn't affect more anime.

The people who dub it try to make it look like it was actually made in the country it's being dubbed in. Plus, the fact, the voice actors sound very different, nothing obviously compares to Japanese anime. When it comes to North America, many parts are cut out, and is always intended to young teens or kids.

You probably watched more dubbed than subbed. While for me it's the opposite. I tried to watch a few anime dubbed, but the opening/ending themes are still in Japanese, so you still hear Japanese. Also, most dubbed voices have far less emotions than the original Japanese voice actors/actresses. Most of the original voice actors/actresses can actually get into the character that they were assigned to, and more emotions were shown in the voice acting than the English dub. I can get into an anime naturally without any problem when watching subbed, but I can't get into an anime when I watching one dubbed. Also, like the others said, there are more subbed anime than dubbed, as the subbed came much faster than dubbed. Another reason would be the severe editings of some anime, either the dialogues, music, OPs and EDs, or change of certain scenes in an anime (like in Yu-Gi-Oh!, where some card designs are utterly different compare to the original version, and everything were severely edited, even some storylines were different compare to the Japanese version). For me, I've zero tolerance towards editing practices. As well as that, some wordplays and idioms which can only be understood in Japanese. But it will be lost once dubbed, as it makes no sense in English. So I always watch the subbed just in case any editings or loss of wordplay happens, and I don't want to watch an anime where it was badly dubbed. Try the subbed versions of some anime and then compare it, if you still cannot tolerate the subs, well...stay with the dub is all I can say.

When they write the scripts and choose the voice actors in Japan, the characters are made to work around their voices, so it looks and sounds more natural.
Most of the English translations, however, will just get whatever professional voice actor they can find to do the job, and roughshot the translation quickly to get the series out faster and start bringing in the profits.
Oh, if you want a good set of English voices, watch Trigun, the dubover voice cast actually does a good job for the most part.

Yes, usually the english version kinda sucks and rewins the normal good japanese version, Unless the voice actors speak both languages, they sound a lot different. Even if fit the same voice actor it sometimes sounds diffrent.

In Japan, all the seiyuu do the recording on the same room. That way, there is a lot more interaction with everyone and the result is very good because is more like an acting job.
Here in US unfortunately it works the other way around. Everyone is scheduled a time to do the recording. One shows up, records, and leaves.

I agree. I can't stand watching the dubbed versions. The phrases are awkward and the jokes are corny. Some of the voices are just ridiculous. Usually I just watch the anime in english sub. If you can find the anime in dubbed most likely its avalible in english subbed.

its because the japanese actors/actresses have really good voices..thats perfect for the character...most guy parts are played by women too...since its japanese anime...its meant to be played by japanese ppl..(my opinion)...
or
most ppl like japanese anime and they watch it with eng. subs cuz it sounds better (me!)
and when they see it in english (bleach, naruto, zatchbell, one piece, prince of tennis..etc)...the voices are so OFF..it doesnt even fit the characters..
but yeah i think anime is meant to be in japanese..

i dont know a kinda prefere english but thats just because if its in japanese then i'd have to pay attention and read other than that i like it in japanese because its more like in its original form and not modified
