I have been a user of this site for over a year now. I particularly like the Politics and Government site oy Y!A. I have been known to frequent it often.

I have learned from others who do not have the same point of view as me and we have engaged in a few bantering sessions. I have come to respect others who have views other than my own.

But here recently, I have noticed that there has been a lot of name calling, hatred and venom spewing. I just don't get it.

So what if people don't see things the same as you. Thats what makes this great country of ours so great.

I have members of my own family that don't belong to the same political party as me, daughters in fact and I would never think of calling them names or throwing the accusations at them that I have seen here lately.

You are chasing away the very ones that you look foreward to answering and then where will we be?

Don't use "Freedom of speech". That isn't what it was intended for.

Why can't we just respect one another and our right to have our own thoughts and opinions?

There really is no need for all the other mean things that I have been seeing on here lately.

Yep! I see a lot of it, too. I wondered where all of the hatred comes from and here we are, on the world-wide web, showing the masses a side of Americans we would rather they wouldn't see. I am a life-long Democrat because it is the platform that serves the middle and lower class of our country. The Republican party, for the most part, is the opposite. Both parties could use some change. I vote the party platform, and hope our nominee is a good person and leader. I could never vote for any Republican and then hope he/she would follow the Democratic platform. That's why I find "voting for the Man/Woman", rather than the party, makes no sense. The polls show that Bush has not prooved to be "good leader" that the cons hoped he would be. He has created a fracture within his own party with this latest decision regarding Scooter Libby. I think we should express opinions, not spew hatred!

Today, many people are not encouraged or even taught how to engage in a thoughtful discussion w/o 'getting personal'. There are many in my family that do not share my political viewpoint, but it's always interesting to have discussions w/ them...hey, believe it or not I've actually learned more in terms of my viewpoints' weaknesses. Over time, there seem to be a gradual move towards the 'center' ...both sides respecting, valuing, and understanding each other's views better.

It'll be nice if people could accept the fact that to disagree doesn't mean a person must be disagreeable.

Totally Agree and Yes I do care.
Especially like and agree with "lifetimefamily" and "gramma arlene".s answers.

I have been 'active' only for a few days and have been called three nasty names by the cons because of my answers. (three that I am aware of !!)

I am appauld at how some of these people are so full of hate and love to name call. It truly baffles me.
Usually they do not have the basic facts but parrot and repeat whatever they hear on faux news, Limbaugh or O'liery !!

Nana4dakids - you are right of course. But I only come here mostly to get a gist of what people are all about, and generally I prefer visiting at the times when there is a larger world participation - to get more variety in the questions and answers.

But serious stuff? not on Yahoo answers, anyway!

Thank you,I I'm new to Yahoo Q&A. While in search of a catagory, I came upon this one. Just before leaving I came a cross your comment. You can only imagine what I was thinking just by reading the answers of others. It's good to know that people"like yourself" still have integrety and are out there!God Bless You!

I agree. The way I handle it? I read answers given before I give mine, (sometimes) and if my point of view isn't already given, I respond, but don't read any after! I gave my point and hope it helps and don't care if the others disagree. "I agree to disagree." Of course we know it's 'freedom of speech' as you say, but I agree with you, it really doesn't give us the right for name-calling. We can think it, but show our maturity by not writing it. Don't leave us because of a few!

Good question. The answer is unfortunately that people are cowards. They get a chance to express the views in this forum that they would never speak in public, without having to face the ramifications.

You're assuming that everyone is here to debate and learn. Some are here to spew and spit and foam at the mouth. That's all they want to do - express their anger or frustration. They can't do it in the real world but they can get away with it here.

Thanks Mom. I appreciate your honesty. This did need to be said. I agree. This site is for friendly feed back and fun. If these people need a heated argument they should go to a bar. Love Ya!
