My husband has three South American Cichlids (Midas, Green Terror, and a Firemouth). He'd like to know if we can put a Pleco in with them. If yes, what kind would be best? (We have plenty of space in the tank. We just want to know if they will get along.)

Any of the south american plecs should be compatable, as the fish you mention are all from central and South America and grow quite large.
As much space as possible plus decoration that cannot be moved would be advised both for the cichlids and the plecs.
Gibbiceps is a wonderful looking species with its big sailfin.
Even little bristle nose would get along well so long as they have holes to hide in an they have been known to breed in community tanks, they look after their eggs like cichlids.

The best algae eater for cichlids is the sucking loach. It is hardy, adaptable and can defend itself against the cichlids. It is also more efficient than plecs at consuming algae. any robust placo will be fine don't go for anything to small or that looks to delicate, Rusty plecs make a nice alternative to the common garden plecs that you will often see also gibbiceps are nice but they get big 2 foot is a real possibility with these. I used to keep to Royal panaques in my Malawi tank and they thrived but I lost them and others after my power breakers tripped due to a power cut while I was at work by the time I got home it was to late and I lost half of my stock 10 fish in all all of which were breeding and over 5" long the Royal panaques were 8" long.

A pleco shouldn't be a problem at all. Personally, I would suggest though that you avoid the common pleco as they do reach 12" very easily and that is a stretch for all but the largest of tanks. here's a link to a page of some of the other species in that same genus

Just click on the picture to get more info about the fish.

Hope that helps

As long as the pleco is as big or bigger than the Cichlids. A common pleco will be fine as long as you can get the same size or larger.

yeah they will get along with any pleco by the big pleco because if you buy the small pleco your cichlid might try to eat it, pleco gets along with every fish
