They thrive only when limited to state-controlled sector supported by taxes paid by private sector.
Even so-called Socialist Scandinavian countries have large private sector. Remember Volvo, Saab, IKEA?

Socialism sounds all warm and fuzzy in concept, but it fails in real life, because they forget to take one thing into account, HUMAN NATURE! The drive to better ones life through hard work, to get monetary and material rewards to make ones life more comfortable! Too feel better about themselves, knowing they succeeded where others have failed, and the money and material possessions are a way to show that! THAT'S human nature, and that's why socialism just seems like a good IDEA, but fails miseably in the real world!
Not all men are created equal, but socialism will have you believe that. If that were true, then how come some people are more intelligent at the age of 9 than an adult of average intelligence. How about pro athletes, they aren't a dime a dozen, and are much more athletic than the average joe, with or without training! Socialism wants everyone to be equally miserable and wants to create class envy between the 'haves' and 'have nots'!
Well jack b, I have never been on welfare nor will I ever, I think social security should be privatized, and as for the widow, her family or a charitable organization can help her. The tax payers should not be FORCED to help people they've never seen before!

They have not.
Canada has had public health care for more than two generations.
France has been a mostly socialist state since the second world war.
China is one of the most vibrant economies in the world today (although in all fairness it can hardly be called communist anymore).
If you think Russia has become just like the U.S. and is no longer representative of a very different way to do things, take a trip there someday: Communism isn't quite as dead as you might think...
isms don't make or break a system. As long as a social contract continues to function, people will learn to function within it.

Because they never have worked nor will they ever work. Johnson proclaimed that poverty was licked with the GREAT SOCIETY. How come we have more people in poverty now then before. We have thrown 10s of Millions of $$ at the problem & not changed a thing.Europe has a cradle to grave poilicy & they are going broke. With policys like these no one has a incentive to help them self. Those that do have the incentive run into all kinds of road blocks to stop them.It is almost like the Liberals dont want you tom succeed. If you did You would not need them.

Funny, you bozos don't think socialist ideas fail when you pick up your unemployment checks or your grandfather collects social security. Or perhaps when a widow collects food stamps to feed her family. Or when an employer is forced to provide a safe environment for his workers or pay a minimum wage.
Get your head out of your ***.

Social democracies like Canada, Britain and France... are flourishing. The U.S. is doing well financially... but U.S. society is imploding. You can't ignore that many social issues for the sake of money... and expect to survive long-term.
America is eating itself alive.

Did it fail in Israel, the United States, or Western Europe?
Socialism is the most maligned ideology in the world, because it is popular and it works, the extremist capitalists seek to destroy it and people who would otherwise have no platform seek to exploit it.

A self-answering question. Socialism is a miserable failure.
Instead of learning and correcting their ideas, Socialists work hard to destroy Americanism which makes them look like the failures they are.
