i have a Items Ordered

Gateway MX6956 Laptop Computer - Intel Centrino Core Duo T2050 1.6GHz, 80211a/b/g Wireless, 1GB DDR2, 160GB HDD, DVD RW, 15.4" WXGA, Windows XP Media Center, Refurbished
but the wireless internet router i got says that it only works with a " G card"??? Does my laptop have this already or do i have to buy it?

Since your laptop says a,b,g you have G so you are good to go! Just connect and run. 80211 a/b/g will work with any A, or B, or G based router. Pretty good setup for you.

Yes it does...... the 802.11a/b/g Wireless is G compatible. The a/b/g is how you can tell. Those are the types of connections it can support. Even if your router is a "G Card", older cards with b will also work. You should be fine.

Just a side note to Yankees1fan......
You cannot connect a wireless g router with just a wireless A card.

The specs on your computer say you have the correct hardware - 80211a/b/g is the "G" card in your system. You have to enable the wireless card for your router to detect it. Contol Panel | Network Connections. Right-click the wireless connection and select Enable.

Most wireless router is backward compatible. If you have a G router, it means that it is compatible with a/b/g wireless cards as well. And let me answer your answer. Yes, you got it and it should work beautifully. :-)

You will be fine, the card you put down is a/b/g ,this means it will work with any of these
