I mean, he looked tortured. Kind of like someone who is being forced to do something against his conscience. Someone who is being blackmailed. In my opinion, he seemed to realize how bad that it made him look to most Americans and that it would put the icing on the cake for his legacy, but could find no way out.
I could see Cheney telling him, "Look, he knows too much. If he goes to jail, he'll start talking. Probably be given immunity in exchange for his testimony againt us. Commute his jail time and hold the prospect of a complete pardon over his head until we are out of here."
To me it's obvious a deal was made during the trial for Libby to take the fall, with the understanding that he never sees a day of jail time. At one point, Libby's attorneys were all "gung ho" to force Cheney to testify, then suddenly they had a change of heart and allowed their client to be convicted without Cheney taking the stand.
My friends, the fix was in.

By the way, to all those who find it necessary to bring Clinton into this for some reason, in my opinion he destroyed his credibility too with those stupid pardons and his lying under oath.
Nevertheless, he just didn't pardon someone to save his own skin like Bush just did.

Commuting the sentence is the same as a pardon and bush would have to break his own government's rules to pardon libby because he has not shown remorse or admitted his guilt. Of course there was a crime committed, libby was convicted repeatedly for lying under oath, which is a felony. If someone commits murder to cover up a burglary, but the person was never convicted of burglary, should we just let the murderer go? Silly Republicans.

Fuuny how the Repugs always have to bring up Clinton whenever Bush does something bad.
They can never, ever admit fault, but they sure can and love to point the finger at others and say "he did it too".
Yeah, 2 wrongs now make a right it seems.
Of course a deal was made, plus by not pardoning Libby, the investigation of the leak case still proceeds and thus Bush and Cheney can dodge any and all questions on the matter. If a full pardon was granted (which will be the case before Bush leaves office), Bush and Cheney would then have to fild questions about the case until they leave office.

People have said that Bush commuted Libby's sentence so he couldn't testify before congress against him and Cheney. It's funny how every time somebody brings up something shady Bush did. Somebody brings up something Clinton did, like that justifies it. Stupid logic to be sure.

Oh check it out, liars, thieves, coke dealers, all the stuff you thought only Clinton did. Bush babies beware, its coming back to haunt you one day.
Of course Bush looked cornswaggled, He hadn't thought anyone would care, darn those Democrats, he might have to stay up late again when Cheney comes to tell him what to say next.

He has had a hard year so far. With the hole losing control of the house and congress thing, 75% of the country thinking he is a moron, and single handedly destroying the Republican party. That's hard on a man. However, "We most stay the course." If not your a terrorist..
