can any one tell me how to kill the second boss in zelda?

i know that the legend of zelda link's awakening is a old game boy game but i am now playing it and i really enjoy the game but I also looked all over the net and found nothing on the question i wanna ask here. Any ways here's the question.

"How can the boss in the second dungend be killed?"

mean i used bombs but that didnt kill him. Any new ideas will help alot.
