loose the rest. Do I have any recourse?

I'm bettin' I don't. I probably just made a few Mercedes payment for some stinkin' banker.

In looking at Yahoo Yellow Pages, there is no State Street Bank in Chicago.

It sounds like you don't know where you sent the money, so don't blame the bank.

I do know of a State Street Bank in Boston that is a mutual find custodian. If that's what you are referring to, then YOU made a mutual fund investment and the value went down, The bank is merely providing record keeping services for the fund, which is what the fee is for. The bank doesn't make any money off of your investments, so don't blame them.

How your money is invested is your responsibility. Don't blame someone else. You knew the risk or you should have known the risk. Yes I know someone else made the recommendations..... but it was up to you to say yes or no. You took the risk. Not the broker/banker.

It all depends on how they lost your money. Did they accidently give it so someone else? Did they recommend that you invest in stupid securities which lost you money? Unfortunately, you haven't given enough info to answer your question.

Start a class action suit against them.
I hear about more and more people suing financial advisors who lost investor's money but managed to enrich themselves.
