Why are most Liberals Hippies?

you know how most liberals are like hippie and earthy, but democrats are for more goverment, woudent you think that most hippies would be conservative because they have better morals and are for less goverment?

Well, let's talk about what you mean by these three things: hippie, liberal, and more government vs. less government.

1) What's a hippie? It's someone who thinks that the earth needs to be protected first and foremost and that peace should be preserved no matter what.

2) What's a liberal? It's someone who thinks that the government should be in the business of helping people get a fair and decent shot at success in life, and that we all pay into the government not just to protect us individually but as a society, including those things that we share, like the environment we all live in and the peaceful, co-existing society we create.

3) What's "more government?" It's the idea that government is not a great evil, that things like taxes and government programs are not inherently bad. They are US. We agreed among ourselves that we would live as a society rather than every-man-for-himself, that we would agree to share some things-- these roads, this air, this water -- as the "commons", and we would do our best to make sure everyone got a fair shake. So we set up a system by which we could share these things in a fair way. That system is called government.

So if government is US, and if it's there to protect us and take care of our "commons", in order to preserve peace, then that's both liberal and hippie. And I'm proud to believe in that.

I don't think that most liberals should be considered as hippie.

And it is not a question of better morals, just a question of point of view.

Hippies happen to disagree with the Conservatives opinions. Conservatives, according to their name, want to keep things as they were, traditionally, while the whole Hippie culture is about changing the world.

I am liberal on many things, but I would like the government to stay out of our lives. To me, that means less government. Let the government do the administrative things necessary to run this country. Don't try to legislate morality, but at the same time let people be responsible for their own actions. Help those who can't help themselves, but everyone else must pull their own weight. Create a national sales tax so all pay taxes. Protect our borders, but come up with a working solution to the immigrant problem.

And the next time the government wants to attack another country, make sure your information is correct.

It has been my experience that more "hippies" are liberal democrats than of the conservative persuasion. At least when I was one in the 60's! I'm liberal and democrat and quite proud of my stance and beliefs. Better morals?, that is a matter of opinion.
