I'm not sure why it was "better" in the 80's. In my own opinion I'd say the NFL has done nothing but improve since then. Since free agency their is a much better competitive balance within the league. And under Paul Tagliabue the NFL has been expanding and making increasingly more money every year, and it doesnt seem to be slowing down with Goodell at the helm. There were some great teams in the 80s, with some great talent, but todays game in my opinion is a much better game.

Who thinks it's better the people that lived in San Fan, and Chi, well look to the people who team were almost unbeatable in the 80's yea to ya'll it was better but I think I am speaking for all the people who could barley win a game like I live in Atlanta and I think it's better now because anybody can win now you never know who will be in the playoffs so maybe it was better to ya'll then but for everybody teams that sux in the 80's now it's better because now we have a chance.

Probably because the 49ers were so dominant and they were fun to watch. So too were the Giants. Plus, you had in my opinion the greatest team of all-time - Da 85 Bears.
I'm not a Bears fan, but that team was awesome.

because football was still a game for the fans, now it's all about the business. in the 80's when a player got a lot money he earned every bit of it, not hold out of training camp, until he gets a lot money, takes one hit and starts crying that he is hurt, not mention any names. T O
