it's quite possible you have a bad valve seal or a sticky oil control ring. does the jeep have a lot of miles on it. has it been driven hard. if it only does it once in a while. it could just need to have the engine flushed. then use a higher detergent oil like mobile delvac. the best way to tell if this is the problem is to keep a close eye on your oil level. if you are using a quart every few days you probably have a more severe problem.if it's not using any oil then you probably need a tune up. good luck

Older vehicles tend to do this. It can be valves, gaskets, all sorts of things. Do a complete tuneup, change oil, use STP oil treatment, etc. If it has a lot of miles on it (?), use some of that motor honey in it also.
Just keep close watch on it; you don't want an engine fire. Do you carry a vehicle fire extinguisher? Just in case.

The engine is burning the oil. It could be because of bad valve stem seals or worn piston rings.

Valve seals are shot, if it clears up after awhile thats just where its at, if you punch it down and more smoke comes out you head gasket is shot

It means your engine rings are worn and you are getting oil pass them which is burning. You will probably have to rebuild the engine because your cylinder walls are probably tapered to much and you will have to bore them.

You have an oil burn off issue, check your level often and you may want to check your carb if it is running too rich.
