The supercharged SS does,
Any high performance sports car does... VW GTI's, Nissan 350Z, all Porshe cars, any exotic really

Yes it would mess up your engine because regular 87 octane gas will cause detonation. Detonation happens because 87 octane is actually more flamable and it will ignite before your piston reaches top-dead center causing your engine to get really hot. And I found that out the hard way. But make sure you check the manual first because it might not require 93 octane gasoline. By the way the non supercharged version SS is an awsome choice. I thought about one for my self. And a neon is not faster than the car you like. And the SS version was the fastest (0-60 in 5.9 sec.)out of the 06 Si, Golf GTI, and, Subaru WRX

The only Cobalt that needs premium would be one with a supercharger in it and even then it does not have to run on premium. Chevy states that to get the best performance from it you need premium but it will run fine on regular.

i have an 07 cobalt ss/sc and i put premium in it because it gets about 3 mpg better and makes more power with it.. doesnt cost that much more for the benefits conidering it only has a 13 gallon gas tank... my ss/sc is getting typically 29+ mpg around town, and about 35+ on the highway... you deserve congratulations for thinking about buying an american car... you are helping to save american jobs unlike so many shortsighted foreign car drivers.. ps. the cobalt i have has no quality issues....

the only cobalt that requires premium fuel is the SS,thats because its supercharged and high performance.,and truthfully I am not 100% sure it does either,I work at a Chevy dealer, and I just can't remember.
