I have 1GB of RAM installed. However, recently it has shown up as 1014MB in Vista. Why would this be? Not that it's a big difference, but I still would like to know.

your system is using an onboard Video card, and 10MB are being allocated from your sytem ram, to the Video. Very common amongst Brand Name PCs

as a side note, if you want to change the ammount allocated, you can boot into your BIOS (usually F1 or F2 at startup) then you can change the ammount, incase you play games or something that requires more then 10mb video ram.

You probably have the new Intel integrated graphics that dynamically shares system RAM depending on what is required. For 2D applications, minimal videoram is needed. However when 3D applications start running, that integrated graphics could snatch 128Mb or more from system RAM.

relies upon on what you % to do. confident including RAM will make your laptop speedier, yet depending on what you % to do. in case you basically have it for well-known use as in cyber web, Solitaire, observe, etc. then you definitely could basically upload extra RAM. yet once you % to play video games on your laptop then i might advise upgrading to a Motherboard which could help DDR3.
