Hey there!
Here's the answer.
x-6y=-1 -->
x=-1+6y -->
x=6y-1 -->
9x-7y=38 -->
9(6y-1)-7y=38 -->
54y-9-7y=38 -->
47y-9=38 -->
47y=47 -->
y=1 -->
x-6y=-1 -->
x-6(1)=-1 -->
x-6=-1 -->
x=5 -->
(x,y) -->
(5,1)
So the solution set is (5,1).
Hope it helps!

x - 6y = -1 --> x = 6y-1
9x - 7y = 38
9(6y-1) -7y = 38 <-- Substitution made here
54y - 9 -7y = 38
47y = 47
y = 1
x = 6y -1 = 6*1-1 = 5

Just plug the values into the equation and see which work out. If the ordered pair (x, y) do not work in the first equation, then no need to go to the next equation. The ordered pair that works for both equations is the correct answer.

well just to start from eqn 1 rearrange the eqn to get in terms of x and sub that int eqn 2
that will give you a value for y
and u should be able to finish it from there
