Ditto, some stupid person that bought it thinking how cool it would be to have a piranha and then dumped it in the river when it out grew the tank or got boring. Stupid people like that are the reason many exotic fish are trashing the waterways of southern FL now, including many areas in the Everglades. Google stories on Snakeheads and Peacock Bass sometime.... it will only prove the world is full of idiots.

It is likely a case of a released pet. People often buy Piranhas as pets, not knowing how big they get. But when the fish is just as long as the tank it is in, they decide to let it go in a local river. It is a very bad idea because if it were to somehow reproduce, it could force out native species...

People mail order them as babies thinking they are cute and then when they grow up they aren't so cute and they get dumped.

someones pet. It either outgrew its tank or it became too aggressive, maybe they were moving. Who knows the reasoning behind it, but someone dumped it.

maybe some one has mail them to the US and they took care of them until they get older and they free them into the river and they mate and mate now we have alot of piranas, well that's how i think of it
