the reason why i ask the question is because my husband thinks that because he has been drinking something wrong is going to happen.

well not likely because the weak sperm will not make it to the egg in time.but maybe this wil help his drinking.

I can't say for sure but I was born with a cleft lip and palate (slight deformity) and my mother did everything a woman was supposed to when she was pregnant. Vitamins, eating healthy, no smoking/drinking, etc. BUT my father is an alcoholic and I really do believe that had something to do with it. There are no cases of this on either side of my family (nowhere...we have traced it back centuries). Those people on here who say alcohol won't harm the baby, they are wrong. Even if it is just the father. Alcohol is a depressant just like some other drugs. If your husband has a drink occasionally or is a social drinker, I wouldnt worry about it. But, if it is excessive some of his sperm may be damaged.

According to the studies they've done in the former USSR, where heavy drinking is rampant, there has been a slight increase in birth defects among fathers who drink. However, poverty is also a complicating factor. So, I would say the likelihood is small. Women who drink heavily have far more influence due to altering the growth pattern of the fetus.

Note: the study did show clearly that heavy drinking affects both motility and quantity of sperm, so actually getting pregnant is more difficult.

It won't affect the baby.
What the drinking does do to a man is decrease the quality of his sperm, making it harder to actually conceive.
But if you are already pregnant, you don't need to worry about that part.

It is not suggested that men drink a lot when they are trying to get their wives pregnant. It can affect the sperm and decrease the chances of you becoming pregnant. It can also cause some abnormalities in the sperm.

No. If your baby is deformed, it won't be because of that.

If that was true ,there would be more deformed babies than you could count. BE REAL!
