BasicLinux is designed specifically for old PCs. It uses a small kernel and busybox to provide a low-RAM Linux, capable of browsing the web, doing email, and functioning as an X terminal. The current release of BasicLinux is particularly suitable for old laptops -- it has PCMCIA capability and includes MagicPoint (a presentation tool similar to PowerPoint). This one will save on the Hard Drive Space, etc. it only takes several MB's Of Hard Drive Space on Install.. Good Luck

you do no longer could desire to eliminate domicile windows 7, you could putting up Linux as a twin boot - so for you to use the two working systems. in case you sense Ubuntu is purely too a great number of a source hog, what approximately Kubuntu or Xubuntu, or Linux Mint XFCE (consistent with Ubuntu). you could certainly putting up dock kind launchers like a mac. you could certainly attempt out a linux distro earlier you install it to confirm if this is working by skill of downloading a stay CD. you additionally can run or attempt out Linux distros making use of a few thing like VMware participant, and an ISO image. Linux will understand greater desirable than 4GB RAM on condition which you run a 64bit version of the working equipment.

Puppy Linux; I'm using it on a machine like that, it's Live CD anyway so it should be no big deal to try it even at the end it is not good for your use.

RAM might be an issue though you may put in around $10 to boost it up to 128.

xubuntu is a good linux distro..but you still need to get a little more RAM to run the live cd.. but once installed it will run on 64...so the live cd will be a bit slow check out http://www.xubuntu.org for more

If you insist on using that computer, get Yoper, because it has the best performance and responsiveness. If I were you, I would seriously upgrade that computer. It is pretty cheap if you go to tigerdirect. If you built that computer and want to build another one to replace that one, save useful hardwares, such as CD drives, fans, power supply (unless you really pimp up your PC), or anything compatible .
