If you are lucky enough to find your best friend and love of your life in one person and marry him/her, that is all you will need. Friends will come and go---- especially the older you get. It's not like high school or college when you're older. They aren't there for you all the time- they have thier own lives and problems. And I'm not talkin' 50-60 years old- try 30's... they will all start to fade away and you will probably have only a few close friends you see from time to time. But you won't care- because you married your best friend... the only one that truly matters.

That is a tough call, but I don't think I could be single my whole life...Unless I get friends with benefits. Ha. But really...I think that the love in a relationship between two people is almost necessary.
And you might not need other friends. My family are my friends too. I have lots of outside friends that I would hate to lose, but I would be okay with my family.
Still a tough call.

If I had my choice to do it all over again, I would still marry my husband who is the most amazing person I can think of... I pretty much keep to myself anyways so have only a few best friends... which is fine with me... I don't need to be popular, with vain people who try to run my life for me...

Great conceptual question.
But to me, marriage isn't everything. Yeah yeah, true love and all that, but within the confines of your parameters, I would just feel way too confined.
Give me the friends any day. I don't need that special person in my life to complete me.
(Hint: can you tell I've been hurt in previous relationships? I have grown a really tough skin now, so I will NEVER put myself in such a vulnerable position again.)

Personally I would rather marry the most amazing person and have no friends other than family.
I think that there would be less drama - and you wouldn't have to try and impress anyone!

Yuck.
I feel sorry for you if those are your only choices.
Of course, the concept of marriage was designed at times when people didn't live but a few decades of life. Now, with science and technology we live 2 to 3 times longer. People have different needs over the course of a lifetime.
