if u hook the 360 to a computer crt or lcd monitor u can get HD. it will only be 720p if u hook it up to a 17' monitor regardless if its a crt or lcd. crts can output to at least 720p, but u will get letterbox so it will be very small.

u would need a 24' or larger lcd to get 1080p

First of all you will need a LCD monitor, if yours is the old "BIG" CRT style, dont bother.

Second the VGA port is actually using an Analog signal. You want the white DVI or even better a HDMI cable. Otherwise it will be sending a analog non-HDTV style. Get a HDTV with a HDMI port and you will have true HDTV/ HI DEF. Which is 1080P NOT 1080i.
