i know they were walking out of a club they played in alabama and noticed a sign 'doors down'...there were only 3 of them at the time so they decided to call themselves 3 doors down~

They've always been 3DD to my knowledge- I believe their first songs were played on 97.9 WCPR out of Biloxi, MS. I always remembered them being introduced with that name- before they became big.
