I've had experiance with several laptops that after a year or so have "OVERHEATING" problem, the fan begins to run louder then eventually the computer just turns off. I began to fan mine, once the fan noise becomes loud, but if this is a common problem what can you do? I looked it up on the Toshiba website/ and dont seem to have a manufacture problem on that.

What can you do besides fan it to cool it down?

I dont know much about laptops so I dont know what upgrades you can get but for pc's you can usually upgrade to a better quality heatsink and fan. The heatsink and fan are what keep your cpu from getting too hot.

This happened to my dell laptop all the time! I found this thing made by Targus at Target. It is something you place under your laptop that runs off the USB with a built in fan that draws the heat away from the computer and out the back of the computer. Hopefully I will be able to link you to it, it solved my comps problem completely.

Confirm it is a heat problem. When a CPU loses it mind some hardware turns on the fan as a safety measure.

So run your computer on a hard surface, not a blanket and put a fan on it while you run it. If it crashes anyway it could be the application you are running. Check for driver updates and application updates too.

Check the fan inside the laptop. It may be clogged with dust.
Also, you can buy a cooling pad that will add an external fan onto the laptop to cool the system. There is also liquid cooling, but I don't know much about that.

Usually you use the appropriate Fan Coolers, that install over the fan to cool them, there are several kinds, the Liquid Cooling Process seems to be a popular one.. Good Luck

It may be your processer. If your laptop is old your processor may not be able to cope with newer programs. You could try and use a later processor or buy a external fan. Also as you said its on a hard surface not much air would be getting out due to the less space available.

Hello....
May be you have a bad motherboard or a fan....
But you can go to best buy or office depot and buy yourself one of those things that you put below your laptop and they have like 4 fans and they blow cold air to the bottom or your laptop....
may be that can help your computer to no overheat.

Well, make sure you're cleaning out your air vents with some electronic duster (canned compressed air), and if you still seem to be overheating try one of these:

They seem to help.

Hope that helps!!
