Hi, I'm 26 weeks (Or 28, the baby is 26 weeks gestation) pregnant. My pee has been tested twice for sugar in the urine, and came back fine, but yesterday I did the 1 hour glucose test, and received a call back telling me my levels were elevated and would need to come and do the 3 hour test at my earliest convienience. They didn't tell me what the numbers were. I've been reading about gestational diabetes and it scares me, especially since 40% (!) of people diagnosed with it go on to develop type 2 diabetes. But, I don't understand why there's no extra sugar in my pee, but this last drink-the-orange-pop-test came back abnomal/elevated. Thanks for the help :)

Don't worry-- 1 in 3 pregnant women fail the 1-hour. It's no big problem.
First off, don't let your mind get ahead of yourself. If you have diabetes, then you have diabetes. It's controllable and there's NO ONE to tell you that you'll have diabetes later in live.
I failed by 1 point and just took the 3 hour. The doctor told me that because I haven't tested for sugar yet, the chances were slim.
Just relax. The worst thing you can do right now is worry about something you can't control.
My advice is to stop reading about pregnancy and start reading about taking care of newborns! It's far too easy to get wound up worrying about little details. Start to learn about your new little one that will be here before you know it.

Before you go for the 3 hr test make sure you do not eat any fruit or drink any juices - especially before lunch . This will keep your blood sugar elevated for the day. Try to drink only water until then and then go for short walks about a 1/2 an hr after meals.. this will also lower your blood sugar. It is possible that you ate fruit or drank juice or maybe had a heavy carb meal before your test and that caused the elevation.

another first time mom here who also failed the 1 hr test (which SO many women do so do not stress out over it!) when they test your urine at every appointment your body has had hours to process the sugar in your blood....with the 1 hour test that is all your body has...1 hour, not a lot of time! it is very common for women to fail the 1 hour and then pass the three hour with flying colors (like i did)...gestational diabetes is a very uncommon condition...don't stress...keep that baby happy and yourself healthy! good luck!

Did you fast before the glucose testing? If you didn't that could be the reason. Also the blood glucose screen is much more precise than the pee tests. Don't worry allot of the screens come back with borderline numbers and they go on to test you just to be sure.
Also 40% is less than half so don't worry about type 2, you can control your diet and not get it!

I think you shourld do the 3 hou test, i strongly recommend you to do that. My personal experience: I got gestational diabetes when i was pregnant, and its really annoying, i even had to get into insulin. Your sugar shouldn't be higher than 135.
The normal average in between 90 to 130. Good luck.

you may not have gd, but you may be hypoglycemic or borderline gd. A positive on a 1 hr test does not gaurantee a positive on a 3 hr. As for type 2 diabetes, it can best be avoided by eating well, low carbohydrates and lower sugar. Maintain a healthy weight and you will likely be fine.

Maybe it could be your diet. I'm not 100% sure. But just try to stay away from too many sweets. Eat healthy. I know it's hard to do when you're pregnant! Trust me I know! But do it if you have to
