A book I am reading begins...

Alright, you bastard, I’ve finally got you. All I have to do is attack once more and I win.
It was the final competition in the National Annual Video Game Tournament. For this round, each player had been given their own character to control in a virtual world. The object was to train these characters in magic and physical combat in order to ultimately fight and destroy the other players’ characters. The four players that survived out of the original field of 250 would win the grand prize – $10,000 and an opportunity to be the first to play a revolutionary virtual-reality video game.

What will happen throughout the book?

The virtual reality video game is certainly revolutionary, because the characters are connected via brain scans to the real persons. Since if you think you are being hurt, you ARE being hurt (cf. The Matrix), the characters play out the game until only one of them and one real person is left. The book itself describes the action as it goes forward and the emotions of the players as they realize the consequences of their actions. The game becomes a world favorite, as terrorists use it against the infidels. Eventually, so many millions are caught up in the game that war becomes history.
