If someone were to do a random act of kindness, and told others about it would that be considered showing off? Is it better to be quiet about what they did? Is it more respectful towards the person/thing/situation that they helped out with?

well, it's considered bad form to brag about your kindnesses, yes, but i don't think it would hurt to talk about it to someone. the classic proverb is: don't let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. that is, keep your acts of charity to yourself. God knows about them and that is supposed to be enough.

If you really did perform a random act of kindness, one should be content enough with the rewards of the act not to feel as if they need to tell about what they've done. I think that kindness should be demonstrated purely for the sake of love and respect towards our fellow humans/earth/ect. But nevertheless, acts of kindness are not diminished by telling others what you achieved. Someone somewhere still benefited from the act.
