There is no debate.
It's a game.
Game ball, game delay...
But don't try to downplay it, this isn't parker bros.,
it's a sport.
Anyone can learn to play the hungry hungry hippos,
but not everyone can play the hot corner and hit a 90 mph fastball past 8 defenders.

Baseball has been around as a professional American sport since the 1860s. No other sport even competed for popularity in America until the 1960s. During a very crucial century in American development, baseball was ALL some Americans had, and baseball mirrored American history in many ways.
Historians assert that the three most important things to come from the USA are these: U.S. Constitution, Jazz music, baseball. Almost everything else "American" has its origins in Europe.
It's only a game, though. But it's a perfect game. Regardless of skill level, it is always 3 strikes, 3 outs, 4 balls for a walk, a 90 degree angle between the foul lines. From high school to the big leagues, it's always 90 feet bases, 60 feet 6 inch pitchers mound. Always. If you change one of these numbers, the game will not work as perfectly as it does.
It's a game where even the weakest player on the team may be forced into the role of hero if he's all that left on the bench in the 11th inning. How often is the punter forced into the hero role in football? It's a game where the manager can always play the numbers, but the numbers are NEVER certain. The weakest player on your team - on one good day - could hit a homerun against the best pitcher in the game. Baseball is made for clutch moments, and unlikely heroes. Basketball, football, soccer - the heroes are always pretty obvious. With only a few seconds left, you give the ball to Michael Jordan or throw it to Jerry Rice. In baseball, you can't send your Babe Ruth to the plate any time you want. The other guys on the team have just as much of a chance to be a hero. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, you always still have a chance to win, no matter what the score is. This is not true of any "timed" sport.
To many Americans, it is far more than a game, just like the U.S. Constitution is far more than a piece of paper.

Its true that baseball is just a game ,but if you really love baseball and your favorite baseball team ,than you take it a little more serious and less like just a game.It definetly matters what your prioritys are in life ,and if baseball is one of them then thats what it is.

Baseball is an absolutely wonderful game available to anyone to enjoy in their own way.
Major League Baseball, note, is a major entertainment industry. It's a business, so don't ever be surprised when MLB ACTS like a business.

I wish it was just a game. But over the past 40 years it's just become a business. Everything MLB does now is all about money.

It's a game because you play it for fun. I think little league is more of a game or pickup games but not the actual sport. The pros is more about money.

It is absolutely only a game. I could live my life just fine without it. So to me it's just a game.
Now to others it is their livelihood. So to them it is more than just a game. But in the end it's just a game, no two ways about it.
