Hon, how old are you? I hate to sound like this, but you don't sound ready for a ferret, and I have to agree with your parents. Begging and whining will not get you anywhere, if you want to get your parents to let you have a new pet- do research! Find out everything you possibly can about ferrets, and point out why you would be responsible enough to take care of one. And while you are researching, you might find that ferrets really aren't your cup of tea, ferrets are cute but have a lot more to them their there looks. They are hyper, mischievous, and need at least a couple of hours a day of supervision. Not to mention you have to clean their cages at least once a day, clip their nails and clean their ears once a week, and bathe them once every few months.

You will also have to ferret proof your house, and ferrets are not cheap! Prepare to spend about 400 dollars, if not more, on the cage, accessories, vaccinations, food, litter and ferret itself.

You can find out a lot of information on line, but pick up a book called Ferrets for Dummies by Kim Schilling.

Also, don't listen to those naughty people above. :p
Ferrets are legal in most states, and have been domestically bread for as long as dogs and cats. For some reason they just get a bad rap.

Aw yes, ferrets are such enchanting little creatures :) I know mine will kiss you to death! But before getting a ferret there are a few things you 'and' your parents should know. Ferrets do have a slight odor. The secret is keeping their bedding washed weekly, cage and litter box clean and ears clean. They require a lot of time, attention and MONEY! I've had ferrets for almost 14 years with as many as 15 at one time. During that time my medical bills for the ferrets exceeded $7000.00 for that year. Right now I am spending $200 a month on 3 ferrets for their medications. Once ferrets get to 3 or 4 years old they most all encounter some type of heath issue, be it adrenal, insulinoma or lymphoma to name a few. The best thing for you to do is 'research, research and do more research'. I would also advise buying the book, 'Ferrets for Dummies', by Kim Schilling; it is an excellent resource of information for both new and veteran ferret owners.

Here is a great link to review, ask your parents to review it with you.

Be patient and in time once you've done your research and can financial afford a ferret I have no doubt one of these joyful, loving creatures will become a part of your life!!

Best wishes!

First, as far as I know, the only state that you cannot have a ferret in is California. Secondly, ferrets do have an odor, even if they are neutered/spayed and descented. We had two ferrets at two differents times, one smelled more than the other. It wasn't a really bad smell, just an animal smell. If mom and dad won't let you have the critter, then you can't have it. I always told me daughter "my house, my rules". Wait until you are out of the house and then you can get your critter.

We did love our ferrets and they were a lot of fun. They are regular clowns and do the darndest things.

Have you fully researched what a ferret needs? Do you have a plan on its care? Will you be willing to clean its cage thoroughly 2 times a day and carry outside? A weekly bath will help. Be sure to purchase one with an ear tattoo that shows it has been neutered and keep it on a high quality ferret food. That helps with odor. Also girls urine does not have as much odor as the males.

it is their house, so their rules
if all else fails purchase your own when you turn 18 and you move out.....
ferrets do lose their appeal after you have had them awhile and if you cannot pay vet bills, nor buy the ferret's food and housing and litter then it is your parents animal because they would be in effect paying for you to have a friend they don't want in their house for you to play with or ignore on a whim.
what is the up side for the parent? more predictable headaches....because they know what is involved in ownership...it is like parenthood. do you think you are ready to be another creatures "god" to feed or not; clean or not; pet or not; to be responsible for the health and welfare of someone other than yourself?

properly earlier you convince your mothers and dads, understand what your stepping into. Ferrets may well be fairly costly with vet expenditures, magnificent high quality nutrition, and so on. What i could do to cajole my mothers and dads to get me one is to do greater chores around the domicile. in case you have present day pets precise now, take greater stable care of them so which you would be able to instruct which you're to blame to very own greater pets. instruct your mothers and dads lovable photos on ferrets on google. DO PowerPoint's on ferrets. placed each and every of the pros's of possessing ferrets. I recommend ferrets are purely like small canines. They make remarkable pets and that they like to play around. I had 4 ferrets and my mothers and dads did no longer want them the two. additionally once you and your mothers and dads are ingesting on the table constantly communicate approximately ferrets and say how undesirable you like them. Do fairly great at school and say your final checklist card would be fairly stable. instruct them video's on youtube on how lovable ferrets are and how they're playful. i could propose getting the ferret u . s . cage in view that cage can greater healthful a minimum of three-4 ferrets. i fairly wish which you do get ferrets because of the fact their great pets! wish I helped :)!

Ferrets are not pets, they are varmints.

I have said it before and I cant stress it enough, get yourself a nice little kitty or puppy, we've got the bugs ironed out of them after 10,000 years.
