Pets are like family to some people and to many, pets have as much of a personality as their owners. I have a rat that I love and enjoy. If she died, I'd be upset. She's a very friendly, rambunctious, sweet animal with cute little quirks. She may only be a small animal but she's mine and she's like a close friend that walks on all fours, doesn't talk, and has a tail.

And sure, I can get another one. But it's simply not the same when you've grown attached to the one you're used to.

Why do people get sad when their spouse dies? They can always get another one. Why do people get sad when their child dies? They can always have or adopt another one. Why do people get sad when a member of their family dies? The answer is simple. People get sad because they love and to lose something they love is saddening.

Most people feel that their pets are actually a part of the family---therefore, when they die, the family grieves for the pet ALMOST as much as they would an actual human family member.... Think about it ---especially when talking about a dog or even a pet parrot that has been in the family for YEARS.... they give unconditional love and companionship, they ASK for nothing...and give everything in return---wouldn't YOU be sad if something or someone who gave YOU that passed away???

Because you become emotionally attached to your pet because it depends on you, and in return shows you some affection.
When it dies, it feels like nothing depends on you anymore, and makes you feel sad that you have nothing to take care of.
Pets become friends, and when they die, it feels like nothing can replace them, because believe it or not, no animal is the same as another, just like humans.

b/c people get attached to their pet besides to most ppl its not a pet its part of their family, its a friendship. If a family member or friend died would you run out to get a new one? I dont think so unless your a freak.

Because most ppl who get a puppy or kitty dont consider them a pet or an animal but part of the family, when they die you loose a child in a sence. At least this is how I feel about my cats.

Because pets are individuals, just like people. That's (to some, including myself) like saying if your child dies, you can just have another to replace it. To people who love their pets, there will NEVER be another like the one they lost, no matter how many more they go on to have. i have 6 dogs- all diff. personalities entirely, one cold not take the place of another, yet i love them all.
