Betta because goldfish grow big they can grow to about 18 inches, so you will need about a 20 gallon tank for a goldfish because they grow so big.

I can't say that small fish tanks are necessarily good for any kind of fish. It really depends on how small you're talking about. However, bettas are much hardier fish. They also don't produce as much waste as goldfish. So a betta would probably SURVIVE longer than a goldfish in a small tank, but wouldn't lead a very happy or healthy life.

Bettas are also much smaller than goldfish, growing to a size of about 2 inches at the most. Goldfish grow much bigger than people expect; people say "they only grow to the size of their containers" but what really happens is that the goldfish runs out of room to grow and its internal organs get stunted. Please don't keep your goldfish in any less than 10 gallons of water.

However, whichever one you decide to get, please remember that your betta MUST be in a minimum of 1 gallon. A 1 gallon tank with a filter will probably need to have water changes done once a week; without a filter it will need water changes once every 3 or 4 days.

Betta fish. Goldfish require 10 gallons of water per fish. A betta would love a small filtered home.

Wow, I'm not sure Holly could be any more of a DUM8A55... Common Goldfish get to be a foot long, so they need a tank of about 40 gallons. Bettas do the best (of the 2) in small filtered tanks.

goldfish need to be in HUGE tanks, not small filtered ones. they are very very messy fish and need a very large amount of space to dilute their wastes.

a betta deserves room to move around, but a smaller (5-10 gallon) tank is good. filter, AND heater.

Definitely bettas.
Bettas don't move a lot, and they don't need much space.

I don't suggest filtered tanks. Fish can get sucked into them on accident.
