you're not sad. It's just sad that people DON'T drop the B.S. and pretenses in real life.

You are one of many nerds who finds that you are under no obligation to judge other people's behaviour, as in social interaction each person feels that they are under constant scrutiny and any mistakes will be made note of an bought up in a feuture situation as a bad point. Not having any problems interacting in the outside world, I feel that this gives me something to do and I am happy about being on YA!. But it isn't completely fulfilling since I have only found one questioin that I have really enjoyed answering. Social interaction involves alot more effort and normally people have nothing interesting to talk about. In the city I live in I have only met 6 people I can hold an interesting conversation with. Many people use the internet for different reasons, some use it to escape from real life, their complete alterego, it doesn't really expand social life as it provides a false sence of security. The internet was developed as a tool for millitary stuff and for research, it has been further developed to cater for all needs. As a fellow nerd I would say good on you.

I am an invalid, and as such, I CAN'T get outside as much as I would like to! So, I have found the wonderful world of the internet! Is it as good as being out and about? Of course not, but it gives me an outlet, to not only speak my mind, but to learn more and more! But am not pretending to be something I'm not!And I have been known to share some of my personal life as an aid in my answers! And if anyone wants to know more about me, they can hit my avatar, contact me, and I'll be glad to answer whatever they need to know! But as far as pretense, that went out the window a long time ago! Life is to short for pretense of any kind, except for movies and tv!

The Internet have been proven to offer a non threatening environment for communication and so the most timid people find themselves able to express themselves freely. And i agree with you this is certain a positive effect in terms of the development of a person.
However nevertheless it is not free from what you proclaim to be bull sh### or the pretence of something you are not. It is even worse with the Internet as anyone can claim to be anyone without you being able to detect it. I could say i am a lesb### and for all you know i am a guy trying to trick you into finding out if you are a lesb### or not....something like that
Lets not forget all this things about 419 fraudsters and scam artists etc that exist with the Internet. I guess this is one human nature that we have to deal with be it in society or.......am sorry your Internet.......not to burst your bubble.....but hey it is true......

It's the issue of being faceless. In real life folk are quick to judge to by your apperance, which has a big influence on whether folk will make an effort with you. The net is a good way to be heard before you are seen and not the other way around. You probably feel more like someone on the net, it probably makes you feel better about yourself. If I lack confidence (which I do) then the net is a good way to overcome that. Your written opinion does not reveal your body language or looks etc...all the ingredients for someone to potentially have a more negative opinion of you. It is easy to be yourself, and the person you dream of on the net without changing yourself one bit. Remove the visual obstacles and you have your voice.

The Internet is great, but I rather experience true life. Who says In life you have to pretend to be something your not. Just be yourself. That's one thing you have complete control over. It's only when people pretend to be something they're not is when all then walking out your door every morning. There is so much to do and learn everyday, life offers us so much and a lot us just don't grab the opportunities that come our way. Basically life is what YOU make it. You should enjoy it to the fullest and let go of the Internet once in awhile.

Wow, you have a misconception of the internet. It's all about pretending to be something you're not.
My sister has three ages: Her real age, the age she tells people she is which is about 5 to 7 years off, and her internet age which currently has been stuck at 27 for the last ten years.

I love the internet because it enabled me to live an independent life as a disabled person. Don't kid yourself about dropping the bullshit though!! The world wide web is full of people pretending to be something they're not. It's human nature to want to appear better than you are.

It's funny that you say that in the virtual world you don't have to pretend, since it's much easier to do it in it! Besides, who says you need to pretend in real world? I don't and, though it brings me some trouble sometimes (people say they want the truth but then they can't handle it),it's a true relief to be transparent. Maybe you're afraid of taking responsabilities (don't worry,I'm not a psychologist and I'm not analysing you!). When you take action in real world, you suffer consequences, good or bad. Isn't that what you're afraid of? Don't be,unless you suffer from some kind of inferiority complex,it's never as bad as it looks.

What is sad is that you feel you cannot be yourself in the community.
I'd suggest changing the people in your life. Living a life of pretense is no fun -- not in the least. To be clear, there are always situations where we may have to mind our "p's" and "q's", however, to live like that over time is crazy making.
The secondary issue is that if people detect this about you there are less likely to be genuine with you.
Surround yourself with people who will support you to be yourself -- whatever that may be.

its alittle weird but if that you go ahead, but try true life everyonce in awhile. Your motives are good for wanting to stay on the internet, but true life is what you are living in! Live your life without thinking of what others think about you, and you should be fine!
