Compromise. Use it as a middle name and agree on a first name together. Yes, it is the name of the sun god, and similar to the alpo brand dog food. The child will be teased incessantly growing up. It'll also be a source of consternation at job interviews. Every time he meets someone, he'll have to take the time to feebly explain how he got a name like "Apollo".
As a middle name though, if he becomes someone *fabulous* when he grows up, he can use his middle name...he'll be set, girlfriend!

Well why don't you give him some good reasons on why you like the name. Example: It was a family name... it would mean a lot to me if we got to keep it in the family. Apollo the greek god of the sun. Known for his power and beauty. Apollo the name of the space program. Or after the Olympic gold medalist! Any of these reasons sounds better than... when I was 13 years old I decided I liked the name. Let him pick the middle name... or make Apollo the middle name.
Good luck!

Apollo is not that bad a name unless your last name is Shapiro or Swartz. You will find that your child will have a happier life and far fewer problems is you give him a regular everyday name like Mike or Steve. The odd names people give their children these days if often an open invitation to teasing and bullying. Whatever your romantic dreams of having a child named Apollo remember it's the child that has to live with the name.

Apollo is from Roman mythology and might be a hard name to live up to. "Hey Apollo, how's things on Mt. Olympus, ya seen Aphrodite?

Well, you could make sure your husband knows that a top-notch gold medal winner Olympian skater carries that name, Apollo Ono, and if that still doesn't impress him, you could use it as your child's second name, and let the kid choose, when he's older, what name he likes best for himself. I wouldn't want to make my husband have to accept a name for his own child, if it made him uncomfortable. So I'd go 50/50, and have it as a second name. You have to acknowledge the feelings of your husband, as he's 50% of this creation! And you can call your child Apollo from the get go, and your husband can call your child by his first name, whatever that might be! My parents had the same dilemma. So I got used to being called by two names, rather than one! Don't worry, it won't hurt your child! He'll feel pretty important that more than one name defines who he is! Good luck!

A compromise is a good idea, many of the answers reflect that, and..I agree. I think Apollo is a good name, but, you were younger when you picked it out, I used to like the name Penelope. (Not too much anymore). I was younger. Pick some name you both like. And you may change it when you meet your baby and the name just doesn't fit. That happened with my children. Your whole family must live with the name, so compromise and love is a good thing.

I TEND TO AGREE WITH YOUR HUSBAND!! Sorry! How would you feel if you really didn't like a name he had chosen but insisted. It's quite an unusual name as well. Can you not just try and compromise on something else. Why not get a dog and name it Apollo and find another name for your baby. Good luck

I agree with your husband
Sorry
How about
Travis Apollo
Daivid Apollo
Mycah Apollo

How about a dog or use it as a middle name
Part of marriage, is excepting each other

I always wanted to name a little girl Catherine Elizabeth
Catherine was my granny, and Elizabeth was my mom' middle name
Well I got married to a man that had a problem with Names like Catherine. His name was Michael, his family called him that, at school and work, everyone call him mike
He wanted a first name that you could not make short
Our daughter is Hayley Elizabeth
That is marriage
Just agree on Apollo as the middle name
I bet he will not like that

Name the baby something you both like. You don't want your husband to have a negative feeling associated with your son's name. Maybe you could name your dog or cat Apollo.

Maybe consider it as a middle name? I know when I was younger I wanted my baby named a certain name too, but my husband and I had to work it out...we eventually found a name we both liked and went with that. Good luck...I know you'll find a great name, whether it be Apollo or not :)

You really do need to come to some kind of agreement on this since it will be your child together maybe use it as a middle name instead of a first name pick a first name you agree on and then use Apollo as a middle name so that neither of you have hurt feelings.
