i am confused because - When u look at some internet speeds regarding a modem its says it can transfer data up to 100/200/300 mbps. BUT ! i browsed some vids on youtube and people had the speeds at 2.0/4.0/4.8 mbps (is this shorthand for it ??) please help thanks

Mega Bytes Per Second. Its usually a download speed.

megabits per second. bandwidth is measured in bits, not bytes. there are 8 bits to 1 byte (i know confusing). no the router can transfer data at that speed, that is not the speed of the modem, most cable speeds are around 4-6 mbps.

Mbps - mgbits per sec MBps -Mbytes per sec there are 8 mbits in a mbyte 2MBps = 16mbps
