I am assuming that this question is meant to be tongue in cheek. Do you need an oral history of the Revolutionary War? It is quite a mouthfull. Some of the parts are hard to swallow. I just pay lip service to some of it. There are somethings the pubic, I mean public does not know about the war. For instance do you know what happened at the battle of Archie Bunker Hill? Do you know why Martha insisted that George take out his ivory and wood dentures when they were in the mood? If it wasn't for the Minute Men(and their frustrated wives. What! You are through so soon?) we might have lost this war lickety split.

The most important reason was that there was several thousand miles from where British troops were coming to where the war was. The second most important point was that the US was able to get European allies (France, Spain and the Netherlands) who for the first and only time in the 18th century managed to achieve some sort of parity with the Royal Navy; which made it possible for them to obtain local naval supremacy at some points. Thirdly, once other Europeans became involved the British had other colonies which were far more important in terms of income like the west indies sugar island to protect. Finally for the UK the war was militarily unwinnable, there was no single city or area that if captured would cause a collapse in the rebellion. The only military option would have been to have conquered every town village and hamlet in the American colonies, something well beyond the ability of the British state at the time. Though the war was unwinnable in terms of military result if political compromise could have created a different outcome. There was a significant minority in the UK that had a great amount of sympathy for the colonists from the start too.

That's what I thought at one time, also, but I learned just the opposite! I had a British friend while I was teaching in Prague one summer, and the more I licked her into submission, the more she wouldn't let me go - I had no freedom at all! Go figure....

We didn't lickem' once we licked em' twice a little thing they call, "The "War of 1812" Made James and Dolly make a run for it but not before she got George's picture.(Washinton not Bush)
Then ole' Andy handed em' their butts. At a place in Louisianna where a lil' thing called "The Battle of New Orlean's" took place. And thus the lyric's, "They ran thru the brambles and they ran thru the brier's, and they ran thru the
bushes where a rabbit couldn't go! They ran soo fast that the hounds couldn't catch em' down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico!" HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA

Scotland wants their freedom but for years have done nothing about it! Talking is all they have managed to do.....but, I am not criticizing them.............they win their freedom and some profitable waters etc, but they may lose more in a fight to the finish.
