it is hard. but you must change it, because you have to live.
some things done by our parents are hard to explain. those things we should learn how to forget. OK not to forget, but to stop thinking why. we have to go forward. our parents are not perfect, so don't take what they said for an absolute truth.
it is hard to forget all that, but you have no option. be brave.

Snap into focus. it sounds like you are doing really well. You are strong because you have your own place and you know how you like it and keep it that way. Change your social connections by joining groups that have similar interests to your own. Most Sunday papers have sections of local clubs. Everything from Knitting to motorcycle. Find something that you relate to and are good at. You will find a built in support group and a new bunch of GOOD friends that won't throw negative ideas at you. Gradually your self esteem will improve and so will your social life.
Also... Try your local Library. Library's are not just for books any more. They have guest lecturers and authors reading their books etc. They also have groups that meet on various subjects that might interest you. YOU have to take the first steps. Eventually others will help you start running with your life and enjoying it more than you think is possible right now. Give it a try.

someone telling you isn't going to help, not if you're anything like me anyway.
you need someone who'll prove it by making you part of their life.
you do have some friends so spend time with them and just try and get out and hopefully you'll meet someone.
