Horses naturally roll a lot.. but it may be excessive if there is a fly problem.. I would check for that first.. Another cause for rolling can be upset stomach.. but I doubt this is the case.. I think your horses' favorite rolling spot is just to close to the fence.. Like someone else suggested, perhaps board up the bottom of the fence where he is getting caught.. I wouldn't use electric, if he gets caught up in it then he may panic and cause more problems.. Good luck..

Horses love to roll in summer in dusty places. They also love to roll in mud. If this area near your fence is either, can you change this? You can place the water tank there, temporarily fence it and seed it with new grass, or board the area of fence up so the horse can't get stuck. Or apply another layer of smaller holed mesh if that's the type of fencing so that the holes are too small to get caught in. Large landscaping rocks or a tree stump or barrels are another option. Just make sure the things are horse safe. We had a QH gelding who did this a lot. Then he got a little filly to play uncle to. He worked very hard to keep her from rolling by the fence and getting stuck!

huh. well, apart from being a dork, and getting his foot stuck, there is nothing wrong with a horse rolling. they do it all the time. put up some boards along the part of the fence where he always gets his foot stuck so that it can't get stuck anymore.
