I think a Baby Boomer is someone born from 1945 to 1950, but I've heard the definition is 1947 to 1952 or 53. Because WWII ended in 1945 and it was the population explosion after the war that was named the baby boom.
My mother was born in 1946 and says that up until a few years ago, the media said she wasn't a boomer. Now she is.
It's very confusing. I think she is.

1. a person, usually American, born during the "baby boom" of World War II.
2. the individuals who (myopically)dominated American culture up to at least the end of the Clinton era.
(also: Boomers)
3. The people who are destroying social security.

A baby boomer is someone who would be age 60 now...the reason I know is because there was an article about it in one of the papers, and showing celebs who were 60...and were classed baby boomers.

There is no definition....its those of us who were born in the very late 40s and early 50s of course! And a note to "If Only"....please have your info correct before making statements you obviously know nothing about. That type of remark reveals not only your very young age, but your ignorance. Next time, get your facts straight before commenting on issues you havent a clue about! You, my dear, are either totally unaware of whats going on around you , or are mentally handicapped. "If Only" you would stick to the categories that dont require any cognitive skills.

I don't think there is a specific definition, but anyone born from about 1946 to about 1953 should count. The term is used to describe the increase in childbirth immediately after the end of WW2 in 1945, so the main "boom" was in the late 40's. After that it was just a gradual population growth.
Alternative definition - "me" (b1946)

someone born - when it was popular to have babies...
can be anytime... but its quite common after wars, after depressions, during the summers cos people get more in the winter months..
i think that the thatcher years did a lot for reducing baby boom, cos its so expensive to live now and you need three normal incomes 2 live well...
mind you - one look at the old BAT (MT) and you would be put off sex for a while anyway !!!

I have always understood that the term Baby Boom described the increase in births after World War II when servicemen from the war returned and raised families after the years of uncertaincy.
