I'm curious to know the pros and cons of having a tummy tuck. I've had one child, and will have another child later...and the thought of a tummy tuck to get rid of the loose skin has entered my mind after I'm done having kids. But I'm scared of having surgery. Wondering if any one has any experience with that?

I have an aunt who's had a Tummy Tuck. She had a Total Lower Body Lift. That includes the total tummy, flanks, and thighs.

Pro:
1. Weight Loss
2. Tighter Skin
3. Removal of Stretch Marks with cut skin

Cons:
1. Recovery time is 1-4 weeks, but can be longer depending on how well the patient does after the procedure.
2. Bruising/Discomfort
3. (If you smoke) Patients are advised to avoid all forms of nicotine for a month or longer prior to surgery and also during the recovery period.
4. No surgeries are a guaranteed success and therefore a second procedure or a touch-up may be required to achieve the desired appearance.
5. Recovery costs are typically not included in the original cost.

*People say you can't have more kids with a tummy tuck but that's not true. The skin and muscle of the stomach are being tightened, not the stomach itself. You can get pregnant after a TT, your muscles will just stretch back out again.

Tummy tucks are fine, but keep in mind they are a surgical procedure. I think it's normal to feel scared when having ANY surgery. My daughter had one (TT) on the same day she had a
c-section to deliver her triplets. She's 5'2" so you can only imagine the loose skin she had after that pregnancy. She was happy with it. Good luck with your decision and good health!

As long as you get the TT after you are done having kids you will be ok.

There is a good TT section on the below site:
