Replaced the thermostat completely, brand new. It is a natural gas furnace and air conditioner combo. The fan will just cycle on at some time and stay on for like hours at a time, without any heating or cooling happening? Any ideas? This is getting expensive?

most likely problem is the fan relay is sticking in the on position and needs replaced....if it is an older furnace with a fan limit switch this will not be the problem as this only controls fan when heat is on....if it has a electronic control board then this needs replaced...

With out knowing the age of the unit, it is kind of had to give you a good answer. If it is older, you could have to possible causes. 1. The fan limit is stuck on, or 2 the fan control relay is stuck closed. If it is a new furnace, and it has a circuit board, the on-board relays stick closed at times.

Is your new thermostat a programmable type with a "cycle" feature? This will cycle the fan when the thermostat is not calling for heating/cooling.
