I've always lived by the rule to do what comes naturally. I have had a few friends I've slept with, but mostly not. When I do, I always separate the sex from anything else. Some people can do that, and others can't. If you find yourself very physically and emotionally attached to people you sleep with, and that bothers you, don't sleep with friends. If you are able to keep sex to something fun and interesting, and you think your friend is hot, then go for it.

I think the heart of your question, though, is asking how you interact with them to figure this all out. Again, I would just say to let whatever comes naturally develop. Express how you feel, emotionally and physically, and ask that they do the same. I've always said communication is the secret to any relationship; I think that rule can be extended to friendships as well. Wanna snog your friend? Tell them with verbal or physical cues, or just sit them down and talk about it. Do they wanna snog you but the feeling isn't mutual. Tell them that as well.

Great friends are great friends. If they just want to get to know you for sex, they weren't going to be a great friend in the end anyway. If they get to know you and a spark is there, just remember to use latex, and who knows, they might end up being great husband material.

I've had a lot of gay male friends. Unfortunately, there does seem to be a problem for them with keeping sex out of friendship.
It's nice when you find gm who can just be friends without pulling sex into the mix. I think they're missing out when they do this don't have at least some gay friends they aren't just "friends" with.

I have gay friends, but they are not my type of men. I like very masculine men while my friends are more like me. I did have one friend in the past who made a pass it me and tried to grab on me, but he wasnt macho enough for me to take interest.
