I am looking to buy an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+, which says it has an AM2 socket. I have a Compaq Presario SR1910NX, with an asus motherboard that has a 939 socket, although says that it supports Athlon 64 X2 CPUs. So do you think this would work, or what should I do?

no... this will not work... you need a Socket 939 X2 3800+.... they are getting harder to find though...

and just in case I have to re-iterate it... an AM2 will not work in a Socket 939 motherboard even if it does support X2 processors... you need an X2 designed for the 939

You need a socket 939, AM2 won't work. Here's one here on Newegg:
