Full dilation is 10 cm and as for how long it could take for the baby to come it can be about 10 to 12 (sometimes longer) hours total time but it can also depend on how quickly she goes thru the first stage of labor. The contractions need to be very close together like about 3-5 minutes apart for getting ready to push the baby down.

A good site where you can go to check for more information is: http://forums.obgyn.net/pregnancy-birth

Also, Babycenter has a lot of good info that could be of help. The link to that site is: http://www.babycenter.com

Congratulations to your friend.

10cm is fully dialated. It depends on the baby's size, position and mostly what your friend has inherited from her female relatives. It may be quick or it make take another 24 hours to get to 10. I went from a 3 to a 10 in a half hour. And not even one push! Good luck to her. I hope her childbirth experience was as easy as mine.

10 cm is fully dilated. It may take longer for first time moms and go a little quicker for second and more pregnancies. But everyone is different.
