This laptop you bought already has a built in wireless card. Just click on the two monitors icons at the bottom right of your winodws screen and then click on 'connect'. It would give you a list of available networks. Click in the list on the router that is yours. That is it you should be connected.

Places like coffee shops and pretty much every airport has wireless hot spots for people to connect wirelessly to internet from their laptops or handhelds. I dont know about coffee shops but im pretty sure airports are free. But yeh your wireless router will only work within your house. It's best to have it protected with a password or people can hack into your connection and use up all of your internet right outside your house. Sometimes even your next door neighbour.

The previous writers were on point in stating that you must have a wireless card in the laptop enabled and you should have full wireless capability. Be advised that depending on the strength of the connection and the quality of the wireless card, your roaming distance from the router will be limited.
Enjoy your computer.

You must have wireless access enabled on that Linksys. Log into the router - something like 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 - look it up in your book. Make sure wireless access is enabled.
Don't forget to set up security - change the Admin. password - I find MAC filtering to work the best (under advanced options).

I don't understand why you need an additional device to make your laptop get connected to your wireless router. Your laptop has a built-in wireless adapter.

Hi. Yes. Two ways. One is to get an internal wireless card and install it. The other is to use a PC slot wireless card. This kind of hangs out and I use (and prefer) the internal card.
