If you are under the age of 18 you are entitled to a break within a 4 hour period, the laws are slightly different for under 18 year old workers. If you are over 18 then you need to work over 4 hours and you will be entitled to a 15 minute break, over 6 hours and your entitled to half an hour. To be honest 4 hour shifts arent too bad and you sometimes dont get paid for your breaks so there is no point working an extra half an hour to be entitled to a break to then get half of it docked out your pay anyway!

No. The only legislation that applies in this country is the Working Time Directive. This stipulates that the entitlement is a break of at least 20 minutes in any 6 hour period of work.

According to federal labor law, an employee is entitled to a 15 minute break for every 4 hours worked and a half hour lunch for every eight hours worked. So, in a four hour shift, you should be given one 15 minute break. In an 8 hour shift, you should be given 2 15 minute breaks and a half hour lunch break.
I am in retail management and am required to know the federal laws, and we must abide by them strictly. I see you got alot of other answers, so to verify, contact the U.S. department of labor.

As far as I know you are NOT entitled to any breaks (other than a brief toilet break) if you are working LESS than 6 hours.

Depends on your work type. If you are a VDU/Computer worker you are allowed ten minutes away from your desk to destress your eyes (i.e you should be looking at objects/writing in the distance) otherwise no, its up to your company.

You can ask for a smoke break. If you don't smoke, a fresh air break.
It's iffy you get 15 minutes, you probably do. You don't get 30.
