We have a monitor that has your standard monitor input cord...the one with the 2 screws on the side that you turn to secure the cord to the back of a computer. But we're trying to connect it to a dvr type thing and the output on the dvr is an RCA cable.

Is there an adapter that can turn the standard computer monitor cable into a cable fit to receive an RCA cord?

Hiya Anon,

Although the signals are incompatible, they can be frequency moculated to work. You will have some limitation on the display adjustment being limited only to the monitors internal menu. This adapter is small and lightweight and will alow you to do what youASKED, Connect the DVR device directly to a computer compatible vga monitor. The link is for a standard VGA 15 pin connector to a standard RCA connector. If you have a monitor that has only a DVI conector then you will have to browse from the link to get that adapter.

To eliminate the possiblility that it will not work, I recommend that you purchase a USB 2.0 TV Tuner/DVR and integrate the whole thing with your existing PC, but then again you never mentioned that you were using a PC, only the monitor. Here is a link if you decide to do this, the cost is minimal and you won't have to spend a chunk of cash on a new display adapter or anything else. These things even replace the DVI by recording and playing back live TV/Cable through the USB port on your computer to the monitor. It is a $24.99 US+ Shipping option, here:

Well, have fun with your DVR and...

The type of signal from the computer is totally incompatible with the signal your TV needs. You can not use a simple cable, you need to use some sort of black box to convert the signals.

If you have a desktop then you might want to consider getting a video card that has the right outputs. This is prbably a lot cheaper than a converter box and will probably produce a better image.

S-Video output is pretty common if you have S-Video inputs on the TV (small round with 4 connectors)

Here are some that should have composite (yellow RCA) outputs:

You need to pick an AGP or PCI or PCI-Express card depending on what slots you have in your system.
