No wondering on my part. I'm one of those you're referring to. I add people to be my contact or fan 'cause something about the way they answered a question, asked a question, or they have a cute avatar.
Another reason I might add is because I've reported them and want to see when the question or answer is deleted by Yahoo.

Fan or contact. Not really-I did notice most -not all- are just starting out, level 1 under 200 points.

yeah, i have people that are my fans and i have no clue who they are. i know a couple of them though.
